It is said that this beautiful conical shape mountain is also known as the Mt. Musuan or the Mount Kalayo. It is also declared by PHIVOLCS, that this conical shape mountain is an active volcano since it erupted in the late 18th Century. This beautiful mountain is located within the stretch of Musuan of Maramag, Bukidnon and can be seen as far as Colonia, Valencia City in its Northern part, in Eastern and Western part as far as Kuya, Maramag and the Paitan, Quezon, Bukidnon, respectively. In the Southern part, it can also be seen in the Brgy. Bayabason, Maramag.
In one of my encounters with the local folks of Kisanday, Maramag, which is about 15 kilometers from the peak, the legendary story of this peak for the local farmers, was that, once "The Peak" is being covered with thick clouds, it is the sign of upcoming rainy days or a rain will come to pour their fields. It is also their sign to start planting.
It is also said that "The Peak" has a spring that has sulfuric elements. But this information has still to be confirmed by a volcanic expert.
"The Peak" is also a favorite site for mountain climbing and hiking activities, and other wholesome activities where you can see the vast area of rice field of Valencia City, the Central Mindanao University and the nearby Barangays of Valencia City, and the Pulangui River. This is also a favorite site for tree planting and perfect picnic venue for families, Barkadas, Students and teachers.
I have not reach yet the ridge point of this peak when we had a tree planting activity here, in 1997.
One of my friends in Facebook, Bong Gabion, shared about the latest name of Musuan Peak, and it is called as "The Mountain of Fire".
