Water Lilies as Alternative Fuel-Green Charcoal

No one expects that Water Lilies would give us an opportunity to earn income, gives us opportunity to get employed or to have a small scale business. We all know that water lilies can hardly be eradicated especially in rivers and lakes and can even caused us flooding because of clogging on water ways. Please see below on why water lilies would give us an opportunity to earn income.

Water Lilies at Duka Bay Resort.

This picture was taken in 2006 when the family took an out of town 2-day vacation at Duka Bay Resort. We drove from Malaybalay City to a barangay of Medina, Misamis Oriental where Duka Bay Resort is located. The travel is about 3-4 hours off from Malaybalay City. We left Malaybalay at 4 A.M. and we arrived at around 9:00 am. After we checked in our baggages and other stuffs, we then ordered our full breakfast at the Canteen. While waiting with the breakfast to be served to us. I took some pictures around including these water lilies with my wife's Nokia cell phone. Fortunately, the cell phone has a zoom lens and loaded with 2.0 mega pixels.

THE NATURE OF WATER LILIES

The beautiful nature of water lilies has led to their widespread use as ornamental plants. The Mexican water lily, native to the gulf coast of North America, is planted throughout the continent.

It can infest slow moving bodies of water and is difficult to eradicate. Populations can be controlled by cutting top growth. Herbicides can also be used to control populations using glyphosate and fluridone. Read more about water lilies here:

Don’t you know that water lilies will give us an opportunity to earn income? In our very own country, water lilies found out as beneficial to us.

Katherine Adraneda, Philstar correspondent wrote about the benefits of water lilies and that is to earn income and the opportunity to provide livelihood to local folks living along the Laguna de Bay and the Pasig River. She also stressed out that the Philippines is eyeing a revolutionary contribution to the world by turning filthy mud and water lilies into valuable resources that might just address problems on flooding and garbage. It is also said in her article that a “Filipino inventor discovered that the grimy mud of Pasig River and Laguna Lake, as well as the massive population of water lilies that clog these waterways, can be converted into organic fertilizer and alternative fuel (green charcoal). In short, the LGUs and its partners on this program now address the problem in flooding and garbage in our waterways in Laguna de Bay and the Pasig River, which was the long unsolved environmental problems due to massive urbanization in the area.
